The Bladder Sinew Channel: Trajectory and associated anatomy

  1. Beginning at the heads of the metatarsals, it travels across the plantar aspect of the foot to bind at the calcaneus. (Anatomy: Plantar fascia)
  2. The plantar fascia is continuous with the Achilles tendon. Thus, the bladder sinew channel continues up the back of the leg via the Achilles tendon into the gastrocnemius, soleus, plantaris and joins the popliteus at the back of the knee. It binds at the back of the knee on the posterior aspect of the tibia and fibula. (Anatomy: Gastrocnemius, Soleus, Plantaris, Popliteus)
  3. The hamstrings cross the back of the knee and have fascial communication with the muscles of the posterior lower leg. The Bladder sinew channel will follow the hamstrings up the back of the thigh and binds on the ischial tuberosity. (Anatomy: Semitendinosus, Semimembranosus, Biceps femoris)
  4. The Bladder sinew channel then connects to the back of the sacrum and all the posterior sacral ligaments via the sacrotuberous ligament. (Anatomy: Sacroiliac joint)
  5. It then traverses the length of the spine by traveling up the transversospinales muscle group and the erector spinalis muscle group and binds to the back of the occiput (Anatomy:  Erector Spinalis group (iliocostalis, longissimus, spinalis), Transversospinalis group (multifidus, rotatores, levator costarum) Interspinalis group (intertransversarii, interspinalis)
  6. From the occiput, it will travel through the occipitalis along the galea aponeurotica to the frontalis to attach on the front of the skull. (Anatomy: Occipitalis, Frontalis, Procerus, Nasalis, Orbicularis occuli, Corrugator supercilii)
  7. A secondary branch will diverge from the back before it reaches the occiput and travel along the latissimus dorsi to bind in the axilla. (Anatomy: Latissimus dorsi)
