The San Jiao Sinew Channel and associated anatomy

  1. The San Jiao sinew channel begins on the dorsum of the hand, spanning a space between the radial aspect of the 5th finger and the ulnar aspect of the 2nd finger. (Anatomy: Tendons of the extensor digitorum communis and the dorsal interosseous muscles)
  2. It travels up the dorsal aspect of the forearm to bind to the lateral epicondyle. (Anatomy: Extensor digitorum communis)
  3. From the lateral epicondyle, it travels up the lateral intermuscular septum to bind to the lateral tubercle of the humerus connecting with the supraspinatus tendon. (Anatomy: Lateral intermuscular septum, Supraspinatus)
  4. From the supraspinatus, it extends up the levator scapulae to bind to the transverse processes of C1-C4 (just anterior to the arm Small Intestine sinew channel). (Anatomy: Levator scapulae)
  5. From here, it travels posterior to the mandible to the insertion of the pterygoids, attaching to the temporal bone. (Anatomy: Lateral and medial pterygoids)
