Origin: Hook of hamate and flexor retinaculum

Insertion: Medial border of the 5th metacarpal

Action: Opposes digit 5

Innervation: Deep branch of the ulnar nerve (C8/T1)

Needling

Position: Various (sitting, prone, supine)

Palpation: Palpate the hypothenar eminence and resist opposition to help isolate this muscle

Technique: Needle perpendicularly towards digit 5 metacarpal

Caution: Low
